Review of Out of Africa (1985) by Cuz'n S — 22 Sep 2008
I resisted for a long time because this is the type of movie that I'm not really keen on seeing. I understand that these types of movies, typical of the type that the ACADEMY would give Oscars during that two decade period, are grand and a feast for the eyes, etcetera, but not my type.
And after finally seeing it, I was right.
However, to give credit whee credit is due, the movie is good. A sweeping drama of one woman's choises and life in a small part of Africa. I guess what makes this overly long movie actually 'enjoyable' to me are the outstanding performances of the leads. Another example of why Meryl is the greates living female actor. Amazing the range she can give. and Klaus is wonderfully understated. Redford is, well -- Redford, and darn good at it too.
I'm gald I saw it and enjoyed it, but I doubt I will rewatch it.
