Review of Our Man Flint (1966) by Bingham B — 02 Sep 2007
Purple Alert! Purple Alert! James Coburn is a lanky, karate-chopping, harem running bond-alike in this entertaining spy spoof which trades fancy cars and super villains for psychedelics and nudist colonies.
Coburn is fantastic as the carefree eponymous hero, a man who saves women from lives as brainwashed "flesh units" only to invite them to live in his own penthouse bordello. The film has a huge budget which is used liberally to create all sorts of elaborate and surreal set-ups for Flint to roundhouse kick his way through, but the script is surprisingly spare and uninspired.
All of the beautiful women and bouillabaisse in the world can't make up for the writers lack of the snappy one-liners that can make or break a movie like this.
