Review of Our Man Flint (1966) by Robert B — 24 Apr 2009
One of Hollywood's many parodies/ cashing in on the Bond franchise. Film doesn't hold up well and is a bizarre mix pseudo-free love- male dominant culture ( the bad guys are a group of well meaning scientists who want to bring peace to the world, abolish all weapons, and brain wash all women into becoming "pleasure units.
" Ok, maybe it's not all that bad.) The scenes inside the secret island base will leave you tripping for a long time. Makes Austin powers look like a day at Sunday school. Yeah, baby. Coburn's character has 4 mistresses/ girlfriends/ roommates to which by the end of the film they add a 5th.
Film is pure 1960's It's a man's world fantasy. Dean Martin's MATT HELM films were along the same vain but handled the spy/ spoof male spy fantasy genre better and were funnier. Not a great family movie even though it carries a G rating.
Today it just seems like a weird film.
