Review of Our Idiot Brother (2011) by Brenton A — 30 Jan 2012
The inherent earnestness of Paul Rudd's central fool makes him one of the most easy-to-root-for characters in recent memory, but the interesting thing is that there is no real conflict in which we can root for him.
Rather, the conflict arises through his involvement with his sisters and their complicated lives, and it is this little twist that keeps the film from becoming overly sweet and sappy. Speaking of the sisters, Our Idiot Brother boasts a glut of female comedic talent - at times they are used well, but at times their potential seems wasted.
