Review of Our Idiot Brother (2011) by Ronny W — 25 Dec 2013
The tagline isn't exactly true--no not EVERY family has the bored, overzealous idealist in the family, but that's far from the point. Paul Rudd seemed about as bored with the role as I was with the plot.
It took me 47 (yes, I counted) minutes to even begin to get invested in any of the characters. Which is quite an accomplishment by David Schisgall, because Zooey Deschanel is pretty much always gold (a pregnant lesbian, though? No.
Just no.) and Elizabeth Banks...was just kind of there. Sigh. I wanted to like this movie. I was charmed by Rudd's character near the end, and much enthused to see his little blowup and a-ha moment.
But beyond the plethora of predictability and ridiculous cast of characters...this movie leaves a lot to be desired. I almost want my money back and I didn't even pay for the damn thing. Rent it, but definitely don't buy it.
