Review of Our Idiot Brother (2011) by Matthew P — 29 Nov 2012
I had NO interest in seeing this and thought everything about it sounded utterly ridiculous. Then we got a free weekend of premium cable channels & we stumbled across this just as it was beginning.
In fact, we got a bit sucked in. The cast is good & so is the acting, generally, even if I find it a little hard to buy Paul Rudd as an idiot. (He just seems too innately intelligent). There are some laughs and some sweet moments, and yes -- some dumb parts, too.
But overall, this turned out to be much better than I expected and generally worth a watch, if you are inclined to be generous to its occasional sappiness and too-obvious attempts at humor. In the end, it's a sweet story and you walk away feeling generally entertained & satisfied.
