Review of Our Family Wedding (2010) by Sue H — 12 Jul 2010
When I first saw the trailer for this film not that long ago, I thought "haven't I seen this film before?". Well I was right and the whole time I was watching it I coulden't figure why I wanted too finish it but I did.
The story is simple different races getting married and the family doesen't like it. First the acting in this film is horrible with none of the actors having any chemistry at all with each other and of course they all over do their comedy and have no timing at all with their jokes.
Speaking of jokes, the only jokes that you will hear in this film will be race joke after race joke and after a while it gets very old. Also when the film tries to get serious, the actors have no idea how to respond, you'll see one person say something serious and the other actor won't respond at all they just sit there with a blank stare on their face and they move to the next scene.
The actor who I had the biggest problem with and still don't understand why he was in this film was Carlos Mencia, he was the main who never knew when to get serious even when his daughter confessed a lot of important things to him.
The other actors were just as bad including Forrest Whitaker. If I had to pick somebody who I actually liked it would be Regina King, I thought she created some of the very rare funny scenes in this film.
The direction was all over the place, first everybody was happy and then everybody was mad then sad and then back to amd again. The script was just terrible with no comedic writing at all and sometimes you have actors who can make up for bad writing but this film didn't have any of the sort.
I wasent expecting a lot out of this and didn't get anything out of it i've seen this film with this kind of story many of times and they didn't respond to the challenge of actually making it still be funny even though not orginal.
If your looking for a good comedy I would tell to keep lookin and walk right past Our Family Wedding. Hopefull Death At a Funeral is a lot better. 20%.
