Review of Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) by Henrik D — 20 Oct 2016
Ouija: Origin of Evil, far as horror sequel goes, this one is quite good, considering the horrendous original Ouija movie. The director Mike Flanagan, who also directed HUSH which I enjoyed, does a great job with the 60's setting the movie takes place in, from the camera effects, to the locations and costumes.
The child actor, Lulu Wilson's character is really creepy, and she really does a great performance, the only nitpick I have is that some of her scenes just came off really funny to me, instead of being scary, which in the end is a real shame, being a horror movie.
Which takes me to another point, for me, it wasn't really scary, definitely creepy at times, but I never jumped out of my seat. A few cliche horror tropes are a bit to apparent in the film, but at least the characters themselves are enjoyable and carries the movie forward.
I found the ending a bit rushed, however the final scenes felt a bit fresh, as far as 'the evil isn't gone' type of ending.
