Review of Ouija (2014) by Abb J — 11 Aug 2015
Mildly creepy, Hasbro's latest board game film, Ouija, is more monotonous than scary. After her best friend commits suicide Laine Morris uses a Ouija board to attempt to contact her on the other side, but instead of her friend Laine reaches a tortured spirit that's seeking help.
While Olivia Cooke gives a fairly decent performance, the rest of the cast is rather bland. And the plot is a pretty stereotypical ghost story with all of the usual tropes. Yet the production values are quite good, and set a chilling and atmospheric tone.
Ouija isn't so much a bad film as it's a clichéd and uninspired one.
