Review of Ouija (2014) by Steve H — 30 Dec 2014
Relies solely on ineffective jump scares (they start with 3 or 4 fake ones; by the time the real ones start you see them coming). The dialogue is laughably bad, so as a result we have characters that are impossible to care about. "Ouija" also fails to justify its preposterous events even by horror movie standards. If there had only been a few race jokes I might have mistaken this for one of the more moronic Wayans Brothers' spoofs (think haunted house or scary movie 3). Unfortunately, this film is so bad that that would've been a step up.
To summarize: hot teen gets hung by christmas lights prompting her hot friends to reach out to her via the Ouija board that led to her death. After that we basically have a few shitty death scenes, 2 lame, clichéd "plot twists", poor attempts at character development, one extremely bad joke, 2 unfrightening spirits, 1 unfrightening insane old lady... seriously it just feels like the film is crossing off a checklist of bad horror clichés, and not even attempting to pull them off in a remotely innovative matter, reinforcing my point that this would've honestly been better off as a spoof. Absolute garbage. Do not waste your money or even your time on the internet.
