Review of Osmosis Jones (2001) by Robert N — 20 Sep 2011
Human bodies may be working machines, but what if they had their own life? Osmosis Jones is a animated live action hybrid that shows how the human body works to make it living. The human here is Frank, played by Bill Murray, perfect for a slob.
On the inside, our focus is on Osmosis, played by Chris Rock. He is a white blood cell cop working with a cold pill to stop an invading virus trying to kill the body. The live action scenes are not the good.
It all feels to artificial and forced, as if every scene is trying to promote good health. However, the animation is great. It really shows that the people who were making this movie, did not have their hybrid planned well.
Is it enough to overcome the live action? The other issue I have is that the animated portions are filled with outdated pop culture references, not to mention one of the strangest cameos in an animated movie (Kid Rock and the late Joe C.
). At best, this is a babysitter film. If your gonna make a hybrid, your really need to put better direction into it.
