Review of Oslo, August 31st (2011) by George B — 18 Nov 2012
A new film version of Pierre Drieu La Rochelle's short novel "Le Feu Follet", the story easily reminds readers of Camus's clalssic "L'Étranger", and the film reminded me much of Mike Leigh's "Naked" and a bit of François Ozon's "A Time to Leave".
The dialogue-driven form might not be easy to digest, but it was the extremely fascinating and gripping parts that really make the film. Following the successful first feature "Reprise", "Oslo, August 31st" is no doubt Joachim Trier's another big leap to the center of the world cinema.
