Review of Oscar and Lucinda (1997) by Pippa R — 20 Jan 2008
While the plot structure left a fiar bit to be desired, the performances and cinematography of Oscar and Lucinda were beautiful.
Certain scenes in the movie were just achingly exquisite, such as a romantic scene between the two main characters, which -despite its chastity and short length- makes even the most seasoned watcher of graphic love scenes blush and wonder at its awkward, tender beauty. Fiennes' performance was by far the highlight of the movie, while Blanchett's character, Lucinda, was gorgeous and captivatingly charming.
Overall, the characters and setting of this movie were what saved it from its somewhat unfulfilling narration and plot travel.
