Review of Osama (2004) by Alysia V — 03 Feb 2009
An extremely poignant, raw and very real film about the struggles that women go through, daily, in Afghanistan. I think it's good for people to see movies like this to educate themselves as to what's really happening in the world around them and to realize how truly blessed our way of living is here in the United States.
I could feel the fear of this poor, adolescent young girl, having to risk her life, pretending to be a boy, just to bring some income and food home to her mother and grandmother who had no longer had any men to provide for them.
Constantly having to fear for her life, not knowing when and if she'd be caught. And then once she IS caught, I kept hoping there'd be some sort of happy ending, some way for her to escape her doomed future, but no.
.the ending scene is absolutely heartbreaking. Her innocence and youth are completely ripped away from her. It's so sad when they flashback to the scene of her so sweetly jumping rope..knowing that the innocence she had then will never be restored.
