4: No one has made, makes, or will make films like Cocteau. He is a unique visionary. Every one of his pictures is unmistakably his own. Look up auteur in a dictionary and it wouldn't be far off to find his picture there (of course he has a number of worthy competitors).

The casting is perfect. I can't bring myself to imagine other actors playing these roles. Marais is his usual self, but I can't help but be drawn to Maria Casares. She is incredible as always.

She perfectly personifies the character of Death, and in a very unexpected way. This vision of the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice is dream-like, magical, and yet grounded in reality, just as Cocteau's La Belle et la BÃÃ,Ã,Ã,ªte.

This is part of his unique genius. Make the fairy tale or myth seem both more plausible and more magical than ever.
