Review of Orphans of the Storm (1921) by Jim C — 12 Jun 2012
"Orphans of the Strom" is more the same D.W. Griffith fare - lofty morality preached in the form of a longer-than-necessary but nonetheless ambitious silent film epic. The film follows the tale of two sisters who are lost in the "storm" that is the French revolution - heartfelt performances by the Gish sisters, Lillian and Dorathy.
The set and costume designs are impeccable, however the writing and cinematography are second-rate when compared with earlier works, especially Intolerance. Not Griffith's greatest, but one of Lillian Gish's.
