Review of Orphan (2009) by Eytan D — 04 Oct 2014
It's best seeing "Orphan" with absolutely zero knowledge of its twist. The movie is dark, twisted fun, despite its trappings as another "bad seed movie". The good news is the bad seed, Esther (played to creepy perfection by Isabelle Fuhrman), does enough gruesome work here to differentiate herself from the likes of such classic horror movie kids as Rhoda and Damien.
The movie creates a suspenseful build-up and provides all the appropriate scares and minimal gore needed to satisfy die-hard horror buffs. Along with that, we get really sympathetic performances from the always great Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard.
Overall, I enjoy this one.
