Review of Orphan (2009) by Tanner B — 23 Feb 2013
Let me tell you, I am quite a fan of the 'creepy little girl' genre. I love movies that have a child as the main villain and Orphan did not disappoint.
Really, Isabelle Fuhrman has made a name for herself in my mind as this character and I will forever see her as a scary, creepy little murderer. She's touched my mind and fell into this role almost naturally.
That being said, despite the fact that this is one of my favorite movies, there are some points that I dislike.
The sex scene between the parents seemed completely out of place and awkward, as well as very unrealistic. The fact that the father wouldn't immediately go searching for his little (deaf) daughter in a dark and scary house after his other "daughter" began acting weird seems unfathomable to me. And the added effect of having a 13 (at the time) year old playing a supposed 9 year old just left me confused.
That being said, perhaps my favorite aspect of this movie was the twist at the end. It was completely unexpected and was by far one of the mos interesting twists I've seen in a movie in a while.
