Review of Orlando (2007) by E L — 24 Jul 2012
Orlando is a difficult movie to enjoy as it inspires far too many unanswered questions when considered literally. Even accepting certain traits of the film, it does not flow very well. When Tilda Swinton, who performs beautifully, breaks the fourth wall, it does add to her character's outer-worldly presence.
As her character changes sex, it brings to light many questions upon the definition of sex and identity. The movie portrays levels of society throughout history from a gender perspective. Whether this works is subjective, as it is a very complex and raw film.
