Review of Orlando (1992) by Jean S — 12 Jul 2007
Queen Elizabeth I decides she likes this young man, Orlando, so much, that she tells him "stay just as you are". And so he does. 200 years later, he has his heart well and truly broken, and so takes to bed to sleep it off.
Sleeps for about a week, straight. Then wakes up and has transformed into a woman. Lives for a further 200 + years... So yeah, this movie adaptation of Virginia Woolfe's fanciful novel is certainly ~ different.
But the film itself is visually stunning, and Tilda's portrayal of Orlando is some of the finest acting I've ever seen. This was where I first fell in love with Billy Zane ~ god that man is sexy.
I saw this movie twice at the Regent Cinema in Wollongong, and both times I was the only person in the theatre! Amazing!
