Review of Orlando (1992) by Mr.chewbacca E — 17 Oct 2009
Beautiful and thoughtful film, in which the movement from one period to another is shown through speech and visual style. I'd give it a perfect rating but the ending was sloppy. The theme of gender in this film is very Simone de Beauvoir, as opposed to the recent trend in biological explanations for gender differences.
I think biology is being overplayed, which is yet another reason why I liked this film. Oh, and Swinton heads a perfect cast.
