Review of Ordinary World (2016) by Nick V — 24 Oct 2016
While there were some moments where Billie Joe Armstrong shows signs of still being new to acting, these moments were surprisingly few and far between, which says a lot since he's in well over 90% of the scenes. Maybe it's because the character of Perry hits close to home for him, but he does a great job of portraying a charismatic, likable character that you can get behind.
Surrounding Billie Joe is a group of familiar faces in the acting world, and they do a good job of moving the story along. The family and friends around him in his "ordinary" life are much more believable as human beings, but since there's such a contrast between them and the old guard of Perry's punk rock life, it makes me believe this was done on purpose. The actions of each person Perry deals with in the outside world seems somewhat unrealistic, but the audience may be provided with these uneasy feelings to help relate with Perry's own experience.
Overall, the acting and the characters do the job, the music is great, and the story is good enough to keep you watching until the end. I would be more than happy to watch this again in the future, and would recommend it to anyone interested in the genre.
