Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Martin L — 29 Oct 2007
THIS is so powerful. THIS is my favorite movie (of all & any time).
Having Pachelbel's "Canon" as the film's only soundtrack was such an astute decision. This picture is about depression, it's about loneliness, and crowding such a picture on pop hits or cheap orchestral music would have been a mistake.
Timothy Hutton and Judd Hirsch were brilliant, together and not together. Sutherland was slighted by the A.M.P.A.S.; his performance was dead on.
Redford is a mastermind of the art of the motion picture.
