Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Naische F — 12 Jul 2008
Excellent directing debut from veteran actor Robert Redford about an average family who are coming to terms with the recent death of their eldest son and their younger one (Timothy Hutton) who is in therapy.
Timothy Hutton won a Best Supporting Actor for his wonderful portrayal of a troubled youth who must his parent's woes, along with his own demons. Judd Hirsch is sympathetic as the shrink. Donald Sutherland is good too as the boy's father who comes to other abandoned realizations, as well as, Mary Tyler Moore who wants to move on but avoids some issues and cannot accept certain realities.
Overall good drama from the school of award-winning serious films.
