Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Sam T — 28 Aug 2008
This is an amazing film that I think has probably become overshadowed by the likes of "American Beauty". This is understandable -- they are both very good movies about disaffected suburbanites -- but it kind of sucks, because "Ordinary People" came first and did it almost as well.
Like "The Ice Storm", it's tied to a very specific time period, which means that it's not as easy to relate to as "American Beauty", but you really should put the dated-ness aside and give this a chance.
It's hard to imagine someone being disappointed by it.
