Review of Ordinary People (1980) by Laurie C — 16 May 2009
This movie is probably one of the most boring movies to ever win an academy award. I have to thank so much for this film, for instance the overuse of inserts and flashbacks, thanks, you were the pioneer on that, that you for overlapping the voices into the character's head, that was very good and last but not least thanks for putting the mom as the evil person and finishing it with father and son hugging each other, it was great, the best materials for a lifetime movie.
How could this cheap melodrama beat "RAGING BULL" yes, "RAGING BULL" in the Best Picture category? It's impossible, excessive sense of catharsis, overuse of dialogue and a huge lack of private moments.
Now, the mother, Mary Tyler Moore was semi decent and she's used as the "anti character?", everybody get a sense of redemption except for her, yes, that was fair, I mean after all her character just lost her son.
Crappy movie!
