Perfect. Classic. I think it's the cast that really makes it work, and that it's all so balanced. It's never mushy, cheap or over the top. And you really love and sympathize with the characters, with the exception of the icy mother, played by Mary Tyler Moore, who gives a startling performance.
Also, for me this was much, much better than the book.
