Review of Ordet (1955) by Bill T — 26 May 2008
Perhaps the zenith of spiritual cinema, the film offers a narrative exploration of The creative Word transforming a world riven by base materialism and strife into a place where the body can rise again in a true amalgamation of spirit and flesh - the Word made flesh.
Dreyer has a reputation of being an austere and gloomy filmmaker, but Ordet is compelling in terms of its sensuously gliding camerawork and quirky humour. Absolutely a film for the ages.
