Review of Orca (1977) by Jiri B — 16 Oct 2015
Orca came out during the time when a more popular director was creating his own mess of a horror animal slasher series, known as Jaws. I think the plot is better and more unique from Jaws. But Jaws is overall a better film. A female whale gets sort of hunter for, releases a baby and then dies. They throw the whale off the ship before she dies and then she basically dies from hemorrhaging blood. The male whale spouse doesn't forget and chases the sailor responsible throughout the film until he finally decides to hunt the whale where his spouse was killed.
The whole film is a revenge film with an interesting ending. The final fight against the male whale is so dragged out and boring, that it ruins the film. It's an interesting watch, and a decent alternative to Jaws. But you should probably just do yourself a favor and see both.
