Review of Oppenheimer (2023) by Felpsgp — 09 Aug 2023
Oppenheimer is a must-watch. The cast, the story, the characters, the atmosphere, it's all great. The movie has 3 main arches, 1. pre-war, 2. during war and 3. post-war. It tells some of Oppenheimer's background both in his career and personal life, tells about his actions and importance for the atomic bomb project during the war and also captures the administrative "trial" he faced afterwards, but the scenes and timelines are all mixed and delivered to us at the same time.
It's very Nolan, the atmosphere of the movie, the creativity, the way it hooks you, I think no one could have done better.
The movie can be very captivating, there is tension at times and how they presented to us the bombs trials is simply amazing.
I found myself really engaged with the movie and invested in the story, but not so much afeter a certain point. Unfortunately, the movie overstays its welcome a little bit, it should definitely be shorter. The third arch (the administrative hearings) which gets a bigger focus during the third section of the movie can be very tiring. The whole background story about his family and career before the war could be shorter too in order to make us less tired later on.
With all that being said, the movie is amazing, and I would recommend watching. The camera, colors, audio, every technical aspect is also a masterpiece.
