Review of Opera (1987) by Nia E — 16 Jan 2009
Opera has some brilliant set pieces but the bits in between, at times, feel like filler, because the characters aren't as charming (or interesting) as the ones of say, Profondo Rosso or Tenebre. However, like I say, the set pieces are wonderful, with a few memorable characters being dispatched in equally as memorable ways (Mira and Giulia, pretty much).
The sequence of the ravens being released into the auditorium was fantastic, rivalling the crane shot in Tenebre for insanity that completely works. The ending...while it all makes sense and makes Betty into a pretty cool heroine, it's bizarrely done!
