Review of Opening Night (1933) by J M — 10 Mar 2008
A film that all directors should watch, as well as actresses. A strange, wonderful mess of a film that examines the strain that can be involved in creating a theatrical production/performance and the role that age plays in terms of Women in show business.
I could watch Gena Rowlands do anything, as long as Cassavetes is directing her. Watching them work on screen together is also a pleasure to behold. For me, it does for Theatre World what David Lynch's latest films have done for Hollywood.
The Actress' Nightmare.
