Review of Open Windows (2014) by Ryan B — 02 Apr 2015
Things I liked: It had an interesting and unique style. It felt sort of like Watch Dogs mixed with Grand Piano, but in a good way. Elijah Wood gave a stellar performance, as usual, and the direction was really well done. The camera angles looked found footage, but it was so much like Watch Dogs in the sense of you are a fly on the wall during this entire event. The scenes between Elijah Wood and the captors were mostly interesting, and the part right before the ending I would consider calling intense.
Things I Didn't Like: The fact that every other actor in the movie sucked. The girl, the captors, the french dude, ect. Plus theres a scene where the captor is speaking with someone over the phone, and the person over the phone's voice is blurred, but you can still obviously tell it sounds exactly like Elijah Wood, just deeper. Plus, they added an entire subplot about these guys who stole a painting, and it got distracting. Not to mention the dialogue was really bad. If a better writer had done this, I would've liked it a hell of a lot more.
Overall, I thought this movie was bad and I would check it out if you want something different.
4/10.
