Review of Open Water (2004) by Joshua A — 29 Jan 2008
They used real sharks in this one and worked on a very small budget. All done while on vacation too. It's a very scary thing to be left out at sea, and I thought about this a lot when my mother and step-father were just started dating and picked up scuba diving.
If your parents are scuba divers, watch this movie because movie is based on actual events so you might see this one on the true stories channel on one of your cable channels. I got this for $9.00 in a drug store in Coal City. Worth it for $9.00 -- good for a date if you want to spook her out of her wits.
I will say this movie is right up there with JAWS it is just as frightening especially putting a human in the shark's world. I've had similar experiences being stuck in middle of nowhere when I lived in Iowa. It doesn't just happen in middle of the ocean.
I've heard stories like this happen along the Great Lakes. It's very common too for this to happen too -- so if I see fan fiction written about Open Water, I can very much see people writing about other stories of this happening. It has an ending worthy of Shakesphere.
