Review of Open Water 2: Adrift (2006) by Na D — 31 Jul 2009
Open Water 2: Adrift is a decent sequel to Open Water (2004), while it doesn't live up to the original it is, in its own way disturbing. The main element that really took away from Adrift was the fear of sharks, now in Open Water sharks were the primal worry for the couple in this film, sharks never even make an appearance.
The story revovles around 4 adults who for some reason take a cruise on a yacht out to sea, while one has a baby on board and fears the ocean. When all four go into the water, they realize the ladder is not down.
Now being a huge boat, there's no the way the guys can just climb back up this whole film deals with them attempting to get back on the boat. During this time, more or less one by one the whole cast goes insane eithe by drowning themselves are hitting thier head on something as to where somehow they survive and act like brainless zombies.
At the end we learn that the guy that owns the yacht rented it, he eventually gets back on the boat along with another girl and somehow a bittersweet ending. Now. Correct me if i'm wrong, but, did Open Water have a happy ending? No.
If you ask me I find Adrift a big slap in a face toward the original Open. Bottome line, Adrift while having it's moments of gore and look away moments, it fails to meet Open Water and you should really consider watching this flop of a film.
