Without a doubt, Kevin Costner's best film. Yes it is better than Dances with Wolves, which is a film that I still don't get why it's so acclaimed. Open Range is a fantastic story that just gets better and better as it goes on.

It's about a guy who can only be haunted by his past when he is confronted with situations to create new horrible memories, it's almost like his mind plays a trick on him, and it wants him to be a bad man.

Robert Duvall is brilliant, I have seen quite a bit of his films and I can honestly say that this can go on the list of his ten best performances. It is honest to the core, and it is evident that he really liked the character he was playing.

While watching the film, I was reminded of a Robert B. Parker western, and the Virgil Cole and Everret Hitch partnership. They can say a lot with a few words and a nod of the head. The films cinematography is some of the best of the decade, it is one of the most richly beautifully shot movies that I have seen in my lifetime.

Open Range is pretty much a masterpiece, that never slips or falters, it is an honest story with honest characters played by honest Actors. It can pull at the heart strings and keep you enthralled with the brilliant dialogue, gunfights, and acting.

One of the best westerns ever.
