Review of Open Range (2003) by Allen B — 15 Nov 2009
It seems that only Costner and Eastwood are able to make Westerns these days. The transition from the open and wild west into a more civiliised existence is marked by this film. Strong performances from Robert Duvall and Costner as itinerant cattle men working the open ranges, oppressed by corrupt ranchers.
Unsubtle violence in the style of the spaghetti westerns, but only after a period of percolating anger and victimisation.
Not Dances with Wolves, but a competent effort none to less.
