Review of Open City (2008) by Joe G — 11 Jan 2011
Like most Italian neo-realist cinema, Rossellini's "Open City" is more about ideas and themes about war-torn Italy and its middle class than it is about entertainment. Much of the first half is dry talking heads, but the film suddenly gets very good in the third act as three of our heroes are held at the mercy of Nazi interrogators.
