Review of Only the Dead (2015) by Riff J — 02 Jul 2016
Extremely insightful doc re what was actually occurring in the war against Iraq after 9/11. Its evident from the start that this is the daily reality that news shows at the time would condense into 5-6 minute segments, which we now know barely scratched the surface of the issues/developments they were reporting on.
Unfortunately, its another gritty and provocative reminder that the 1st casualty in any war is the truth. We're simply given a narrative that ensures 10-15min later our attention has shifted to something else.
Bc if we actually accepted the reality of the situation, it would likely impact us in ways that are currently unimaginable. To a much much much lesser extent than what the filmmaker personally went through.
