Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by May T — 21 Apr 2014
A very different vampire movie/story. Slow but mesmerising, particularly because of the cinematography, location settings, actors (both Tilda Swimton and Tom Hiddleston are excellent). It was difficult to predict and had a great "message" ending.
Unlike recent entries to the vampire genre (think Twilight), this is an adult movie - mature, subtle, almost no violence, horror, or blood and gore (maybe a few small wine glasses of blood), and some clever historical references with a tinge of tongue in cheek.
Australia's Mia Wasikowski puts in a good turn as Eve's (Tilda Swinton) hard-to-control teenage sister. What is the likelihood of people ignoring their basic personalities? Watch this movie to find out.
