Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Patrick M — 02 May 2014
From every other vampire film I have seen, the main lesson is that the price of immortality is loneliness. This beautiful and loving sketch of a moment in time between two vampire lovers demonstrates something quite different.
The main characters are tender and complex aficionados of all things creative and natural, without despising the humans around them. The music provides a hauntingly hopeful backdrop to the inevitable bloodletting.
Yet, even vampires can be kind, goodhearted, and generous of spirit, not only to their dedicated lover, but also to humanity.
