Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Peter D — 24 May 2014
Only lovers left alive is a very different movie... An intelligent movie, but with surprisingly little conflict. It could not have been casted better though, all the way from Hiddelston, to Swindon, to yelchin, the cast provided perfectly.
What holds me back from a five star review is the involvement of music in the story, which is also intelligent, showing it's growth through time along side with the growth of Adam and Eve. I myself am not a huge music fan, and so could not fully appreciate this aspect of the film.
Perhaps the funniest part of the movie is the main characters calling normal humans zombies. As we know a zombie is only a metaphor for humans anyway, but Only Lovers does a great job of makeimg it comically literal.
All in all Jarmusch has given us another mysteriously different movie to ponder until his next release. I would recommend it to any fans of his previous films such as Ghost Dog, Dead Man, and Mystery Train, and to any lover and follower of music through time, But Twilight fans beware!
