Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Lena B — 12 Jul 2014
Finally - a vampire movie worthy of being made! It's been a while. This movie has everything I love - feral but beautiful vampires, weirdness, romance out the wazoo, humor, and fantastic music. It works because I believe Adam and Eve on screen as a couple.
It is incredibly romantic without a lot of explicit interaction between the two (darn!) 8^) Practically anytime Adam and Eve are in the same scene, they're somehow touching (maybe a reference to that "intwined particle" dialogue in the movie?) Tom does a fantastic job of taking what could have been a tired brooding, depressed rocker stereotype and making him more.
You feel like you're eavesdropping on conversations that have gone on for centuries. The funniest thoughts were going through my head while watching this - I can suspend disbelief to go with vampires getting high on O negative, but you can't convince me that Adam would sit in the department of motor vehicles for a driver's license.
That's just asking too much. I'd love to know more back story, like how did Adam meet Ian and trust him enough to let him into his house since privacy was such a big deal to him.
