Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Kris B — 25 Jul 2014
A sombre look at immortality that's quite refreshing compared to the romanticised vampire flicks/TV shows predominantly aimed at teens and younger adults.
It touches on the very long term relationship between Adam and Eve, supply of their food source, and even the complications of international travel.
The chemistry between Tilda Swinton's, Eve and Tom Hiddlestone's, Adam is truly electrifying despite their disparate view on their immortal lives.
Eve still has the passion for life whereas suicidal Adam bemoans the downward spiral of humanity, calling them zombies.
Considering that once one hits the age of 30, they lament how today's music is beneath the music from their teens, one can only imagine how dull and dreary life could end up being when one has experienced the likes of Beethoven, Mozart, Shakespeare, etc in their lifetime.
Or maybe we never truly change, we just cycle through our lives. This can explain the appearance of Eve's disruptive sister, Ava, played by Mia Wasikowska who's centuries old but still very much a reckless teenager at heart and actions.
