Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Luis P — 08 Aug 2014
Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston beat the notion that all vampires have it easy. This film by Jim Jarmusch speaks volumes about the economic and cultural state of the world. It surprises that the zombie humans are more lively than the sad, intelligentsia that drink blood.
Swinton and Hiddleston deliver solid performances as vampires trying to get through their tortuous life. The true star of this film is the cinematographer. Visions of records spinning and images of these rotting vampiric minds is a delectable treat.
There are some droll camp moments, yet I found everything to become quite apparent. Highly recommend to see this now. John Hurt plays Christopher Marlowe and represents the many celebrities that have vampiric friendly ties.
And by the way, Detroit never looked more spookier.
