Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Alex W — 30 Nov 2014
Playful and darn stylich film from one of my favorite directors. It's nice to have him back after "Limits of Control" that was kind of a let down for me.
Here he does a film with a pretty creative touch of such a classic ingredient as vampires. It's modern, still classical and it does not go away from the given vampire stuff. Cool and smart film with poetic dialogue within a pretty typical love story. It's well acted and great casted and I enjoy it from start until the end-titles.
Great slow motion scenes and slow scenes in general - but never dragged out. Also very delicate - I caught myself moping from one scene, followed by the line "That was visual" - a neat touch. The amazing soundtrack also need a mention. One of the best ones out for a long time.
This is for your eyes and your ears more than it is for your brain. It's not complex, more straight forward, but the great script makes it interesting none the less.
Jarmuch is back and he is still one of the coolest cats in the game.
8 out of 10 shots of blood.
