Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Paris H — 04 Jan 2015
A welcome entry into the Vampire Genre with an Alternative/Indie feel. Immortal musician, & lover of Science & the Arts, Adam (Tom Hiddleston) is depressed & in a state of disillusionment with the modern world.
His old lover Eve (Tilda Swinton) ,worlds away in her tomb of books , reaches out to him & drama & hilarity ensue as the two vampires are reunited . The film succeeds largely because of biting charm the two lead actors bring with them , along with director Jim Jarmusch's eye for simplicity.
That & the vampirism is well used as a clever metaphor that doesn't hit you over the head with mythology.
