Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Critic M — 22 Nov 2013
Dark, artistic, haunting and out there... far out there. This film is strange, brooding and is like taking a bath in a tub full of ice and neon food coloring. The cinematography is mesmerizing and the direction is excellent.
The acting was cold, simplistic, and very two dimensional. Gosling was calm, cool and looking stylish as per usual. The movie plays out like some sort of depressing, nightmarish music video, yet it is interesting enough to keep you watching.
The biggest problem this movie has is it's story. There is a lot of information missing and a few very disappointing plot turns. Despite problems with the story, this film is still worth a look. "Only God Forgives" is strange and incredibly uncomfortable.
That being said, it is still visually pleasing, violent and completely unique.
