Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Marty D — 22 Nov 2014
The cinematography and Art direction are beyond gorgeous and worth the watch. the direction is pretentious to say the least... and the plot is just as thin. the ideology of the film with Julian being torn between God and the devil is really quite cool.
.. but there isn't enough meat on this steak to call it amazing. it could have been spectacular... but instead, I feel the director Rifn was a bit to high on himself to see that and take any of the audiences thoughts into his concept.
too many of his shots fall flat and repetitive and it could definitely have been speed up or just added a bit more story to it. it's a film I have started to enjoy more and more with each viewing.
.. but still never "hits the spot".
