Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Onesamtwocups — 19 Jul 2013
Only God Forgives is certainly not the movie that it was made out to be at the Cannes festival, but it also delivers some disappointing punches that don't live up to expectations. Refn's lastest effort proves to be a strong-but-weak film, almost clinching at what he was trying to say with the film but not quite making it clear.
Gosling's silent-psycho act along with Kristen Scott-Thomas's act make this film quite enjoyable, along with a riveting soundtrack and amazing visuals. Where the film delivers in characters, sound, and visuals, also comes with a sub-par script and billions of plot holes.
Only God Forgives will deliver to all die hard Refn fans, but mainstream audiences will try to burn this one at the stake.
